The Atlanta Miniature Society (AMS) opened their 34th Annual Miniature Show & Sale in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, September 20th with appetizers in the atrium of the Holiday Inn. Attendees were grateful for the chance to connect and enjoy the treats, but they could not wait to get in the salesroom. They got the chance to partake in the Show Preview from 7:00-9:30 p.m. That was hardly enough time, so thankfully, the show continued through Saturday, September 21st.
When mini fans gather, it is like greeting family members and faithful friends, and this year’s AMS Show was no exception. There were plenty of reunions, but it was great to see lots of newcomers as well. Some heard about it from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s article the day before, while others accepted the invitation of a “miniac” who was thrilled to share the amazing dollhouse miniatures world with them.
The women and men of Atlanta’s mini club have got this show thing down to a science. Year-after-year they consistently deliver a well-executed show. The Silent Auction is always a popular attraction. Bidders get the bonus of finding new minis to treasure, and AMS gets to continue supporting one of their favorite organizations, the Women’s Resource Center. Show Chair, Ruthanne Huff, has served as the fearless leader for the fifth year in a row. She recently ended her reign as the club’s President, and she and her husband, Richard (who celebrated his birthday the same day the show opened), have both been laying a solid foundation of service for decades. Earlier this year, Ruthanne passed her presidential mantel to J.P. Sligh, who is also serving as the new State Representative for the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts (NAME).
Plans are already being made for next year’s show. Margaret Jones, this year’s Exhibit Chair, will serve as the AMS Show Co-Chair for the 35th Annual Show & Sale in 2014. So, mark your calendar for September 19-20, 2014. Atlanta is the place to be for minis!
