CLUB SCENE: Atlanta Miniature Society, One of America’s Top Local Clubs

During the summer of 1978, a small energetic group was excited to find that there were other miniaturists in the city who were anxious to form an organization in which to share their talents, experiences and collections with those of us who were novices. Following several preliminary meetings to explore the goals we hoped to realize through a club, a name was chosen, officers were elected, and a constitution was drafted. The Atlanta Miniature Society was born. The Atlanta Miniature Society can now be proud of 35 years as a group of miniature enthusiasts. Four of the original members are still participating, Joanne Ehlert, Delia Reynolds, and Paul & Mickey Benamy. Currently, there are 48 active members.

The group meets monthly at the Central Congregational Church to enjoy a demonstration by a club artisan or to work on do it yourself projects. Throughout the year the Atlanta miniature society will also participate in various NAME projects. One of their most notable milestones was hosting a NAME National Convention 1987, themed Attic Adventures. AMS participates with The Girl Scouts of America to share miniature excitement with the youth of Atlanta.

The group can boast five artisans who earn a full time living making miniatures, as well as the owners of the only brick and mortar store in Atlanta, Miniature Designs.

The AMS Annual Show and Sale is a yearly highlight of the club. The first show was held the first year the club began. They are proud to exhibit over 200 museum quality miniatures produced by AMS members and also strive to bring outstanding artisans from around the country to sell at the show. The AMS Show and Sale is a group effort that depends on the participation of all members to ensure a successful yearly event.
